The Third Phase 2012-2017

The third phase extended between 2012-2017 amidst massive socio-political changes in the country. By this time, the NRHM had disappeared and with the change in the central government, focus on primary health care had dwindled. The effects of massive privatisation was seen even in villages. The health needs of communities had increased, so also health expenditure.

Focus on Private Health Care and Community Rights:

During this phase, JMS focused on the private health care sector, private health expenditure and the denial of health rights in the private health care sector. JMS participated in the state level meetings and public events against privatisation of health care.

Revival of herbal medicines and medicinal garden:

In the new piece of land acquired by JMS near Muddanagudi village, health workers planted more than 1000 medicianl plants that included aloe-vera, amla plants, neem plants, pongamia plants and other medicinal plants. The Medicinal garden helped in renewing the interest in the local health traditions and also in facilitating the re-grouping of women health workers.
