CHIGURU PRODUCTS
Livelihood and Business Loan
Chiguru supports livelihoods and entrepreneurship of women with loans up to Rs. 50,000/- at a very affordable rate of interest. During 2018–2024, Chiguru has supported 200 women for sheep rearing and to undertake small businesses such as vegetable vending.
Neem Fertiliser
Neem fertiliser is prepared from neem seeds, which are a commonly available local resource. Around 150 women collect neem seeds and supply them to Chiguru, receiving payment according to the quantity supplied. Women then process the seeds and prepare pure neem fertiliser.
The neem fertiliser group received the Citigroup Micro-Entrepreneurship National Award in 2006 for leadership and rural entrepreneurship.
Terracotta Jewellery and Artefacts
Fifteen women have groomed themselves as clay artists over the last 20 years. They prepare very fine-quality jewellery from refined clay. Each intricately designed piece is a testament to the capacity of rural women to overcome the challenges they face.
The Chiguru terracotta products include earrings, necklaces, keychains, wall hangings with bells, bracelets, anklets and door decorations.
Food and Nutrition Products
Pickles made from locally grown amla (gooseberry), tamarind and tomatoes are seasonally available at Chiguru at reasonable prices.
Mixtures or powders prepared with groundnut (shenga), curry leaves and herbal leaves such as agase are available at Chiguru.
Herbal and Healthcare Products
The trained health workers at Jagrutha Mahila Sanghatane prepare various herbal products to promote health and wellbeing with the aim: 'Our health in our hands'. These products are locally used in healing ailments and for primary care. Most of them are part of local health traditions.

Made from the leaves of the healing Neem tree (Azadirachta indica), this oil is used for a wide range of skin ailments that include cuts, wounds, allergies, rashes and eczema.
Used for arthritic and rheumatic pains, joint pains, sprains, muscle pulls and swelling, this oil is made from Nirgundi (Vitex negundo) and Akke (Calotropis gigantea).
Used for respiratory problems such as cough, bronchitis and asthma, this choornam or mixture is made with herbs and spices that form the basis of many well-known Ayurvedic preparations. Its ingredients include black pepper, cardamom, dry ginger, cinnamon, pipli and Thalispatra.
Amla fruits are processed to prepare a highly nutritious tonic. It is used to treat anaemia in women and children and can be consumed as a general health drink.
This is prepared from locally grown aloe vera plants. It is used to treat anaemia and white discharge in women and can be consumed as a general health drink.
